Great story Jim. It’s a beautiful picture of life before Europeans “discovery” of America. Yes, I remember learning of the Seneca Nation of New York State in Miss Brady’s 7th grade history class at Walt Whitman JHS but your story brings life to those boring topics.
The mistreatment of Native Americans along with black slavery are two subjects that our country has not dealt with honestly for many years. Well done!
Historical fiction opens up all kinds of possible topics for you…crime, politics, religion, immigration, sports, science fiction….go for it bro! Have fun in your new genre! 👍👍👍
A great commentary on early history of some of the current land we occupy. Exploration then and development since, have displaced many people, changing their lives , usually and not necessarily for the better. Explorations of long ago laid claim to lands without respect to others who lived on the lands and had done so for thousands of years prior to the arrival of "foreign" travelers. Their lands were invaded by the White Europeans. History has a way of repeating itself, for better or worse. One need only to look at their own communities today to see how the "good old days" have morphed into something that would be unrecognizable by our grandparents today. While efforts have been made to encourage good stewardship of our land of bounty and promote environmental considerations in our daily living, we still fall short. One day, the times we live in may be chronicled for generations to come. I wonder what the Hudson River will be called then? Will Americans suffer a similar fate as did the Lenapes? Only time will tell.
Thank you Sharon! I am pleased that you enjoyed the story, and look for more in the future. I am trying out a new genre that I hope you enjoy. Thank you for your wonderful comments, there are much appreciated!
